Triple World Champion Sebastian Vettel has been named the Director of Performance of automotive brand, Infiniti, at the 2013 New York International Auto Show. The Japanese automaker has been associated with the energy drink team since 2011 and has increased its involvement with the team this year by becoming its title sponsor.
The German driver had previously collaborated with Infiniti and played a crucial role in designing the Infiniti FX Vettel edition. And more recently he’s been involved in the development of the Inifniti Q50.
Speaking about the collaboration with Vettel, Infiniti President Johan de Nysschen, said, “As our technical collaboration with Infiniti Red Bull Racing continues to deepen, so does our relationship with Sebastian who will be crucial to the development of our future vehicle line-up, ensuring Infiniti stands for passion and performance in a brand that challenges the status quo.”
Vettel has also been involved in the development of the Infiniti Q50 from its early stages and has spent time with engineers in Japan to give them feedback on performance, chassis, and handling. “Helping to develop the Infiniti Q50 was a very different type of driving duty for me but I approached it in exactly the same way as I do my Formula One car," said Vettel. "I am looking forward to working closely with Infiniti in developing more of their road cars into the future.”
From the 2013 Formula 1 season, Infiniti has strengthened their ties and involvement with Red Bull Racing as title sponsors and also on the technical front which includes innovation, new technologies and R&D resources for the racing team.
