The city of Mumbai witnessed the IndiKarting Clash Of Karts, where racers representing a variety of categories competed against each other at the Ajmera IndiKarting Circuit. The event saw more than 650 registrations, resulting in 204 entries at the event. This event was also the second season finale of the Clash Of Pros that spanned three rounds, with the first two held in November and December. Here’s a rundown of all that transpired:
Pro-Junior
The Pro-Junior category saw some tense racing action spanning three races amongst racers within the age bracket of 11 to 16 years. Raiden Samervel drew first blood with a pole lap just five hundredths of a second ahead of Veer Sheth. Raiden Samervel continued the strong momentum with a win in Race 1 ahead of Shaurya Kapani and Veer Sheth. Race 2 is where things were spiced up a little with a reverse grid based on Race 1’s results. Despite starting down in sixth, Shaurya Kapani carved his way through the field to take the win ahead of Nirvaan Chadna and Hoshmand Elavia.
The third and final race grid order was based on the combined results of Race 1 and Race 2. This saw Shaurya Kapani start on pole, with Raiden Samervel 2nd and Veer Sheth 3rd. As the lights went out, we saw a tense battle for the lead between the top 3, which culminated in Veer Sheth taking the win, with Shaurya Kapani and Raiden Samervel rounding off the podium.
Pro Senior
The Pro-Senior category saw three drivers exchanging blows the entire weekend. It kicked off with Jamie Shaw, Rahul Deshpande and Danesh Banajee starting in the top 3 for Race 1 and Jamie dominating the race and taking the win ahead of Rahul Deshpande, closely followed by Danesh Banajee. Reverse grid for Race 2 saw Jah Wadia start on pole, Ojas Surve 2nd and Mihir Patel 3rd. Jamie Shaw, despite starting last, sliced through the field and took his second consecutive win ahead of Rahul and Danesh. Yes, these two races saw the same status quo, but Race 3 saw an intense scrap for the race win. Danesh starting 3rd swiftly took the lead from Jamie Shaw, with Rahul Deshpande snatching 2nd spot away from Jamie. What ensued later was a bumper-to-bumper fight for the lead that lasted till the chequered flag dropped. In the end, Danesh held on to 1st, with Rahul 2nd and Jamie rounding off the podium.
For those that are Seniors, but worried about your weight disadvantage being more than 80kg? Worry not, as a seperate Pro-Senior category was run alongside the Pro-Senior class. Fahad Kutty took the win, with Mihir Patel and Raghav Vaishnav rounding off the podium.
Aside from the pros, we also saw action from plenty of categories. Starting with the Inter-School class, Ayan Jussawalla (DPYA High School) took top honors, with Advaith Jampa (Tridha School) & Aditya Patnaik (Delhi Public School) rounding off the top 3. The Inter-College class saw Sasvat Jain (Indian School of Design & Innovation) winning ahead of Tej Patel (Podar International School) in 2nd & Raghav Vaishnav (Jai Hind College) third. In the Corporate category, Chintan Shah (Deltron Electricals) took the win, with Mark Shaw (Shawman Software) and Aashwath Chowta (Afwah Media Consultants) finishing 2nd and 3rd.
Sawan Sathyanarayan was the man on form by winning the Amateur, Masters and Open categories. Ojas Surve & Sasvat Jain rounded off the podium in the Open category, whereas Chandan Hegde & Ojas took second & third in the Amateur Category. Chintan Shah and Prashant Sonpar rounded off the podium in the Masters category.
The Women’s category saw the final race culminating in a tense battle for the win. While Maariyah Sheikh finished 1st on the road, a jump-start penalty dropped her down to 3rd in the results. This saw Isha Sharma take the win with Aashi Hanspal taking 2nd. The Veterans category saw Jamie Shaw, Aman Singh Bhui & Kiran Pardeshi round off the top 3. Raghav Vaishnav took top honors in the Senior Plus category with Paarth Damani & Adil Shah rounding off the podium.
The media also had a bit of fun of their own with the Media category, in which our very own Gaurav Davare took top honors ahead of Saurabh Gamare (Exhibit Magazine) and Rajesh Dsouza (Zee TV).
The end of this event also saw the climax of the Clash Of Pros championship that spanned 3 race weekends. The other two rounds were back in November and December last year. Shaurya Kapani took the title for the Pro-Junior category, with a tally of 78 points. Veer Sheth finished 2nd overall at 61 points with Raiden Samervel finishing the season in 3rd at 51 points.
The Pro-Senior category saw Rahul Deshpande take the title with 63 point tally, just 9 ahead of Jamie Shaw in 2nd at 54 points. Despite missing the 2nd round due to a rib injury, Danesh Banajee finished 3rd overall. In the Pro-Senior+ category, Raghav Vaishnav (19 points), Fahad Kutty (17 points) and Mihir Patel (13 points) took the top 3 overall results.
Overall, the IndiKarting Clash Of Karts was a weekend full of racing action. It continues to serve as a strong starting point for racers to compete on a level playing field as well as provide a platform for starters to begin their racing careers.
