Becomes first Indian to be appointed as the chief of the International Motorcycle Industry body

President of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), S Sandilya has been unanimously voted and elected as the President of the International Motorcycle Manufacturers Association (IMMA) for the duration of 2012-2014. The appointment took place at the General Assembly meeting of IMMA held on 23rd May, 2012 in Madrid, Spain. The IMMA represents the global two-wheeler industry consisting of Australia, Canada, Japan, India, China, USA, Europe (including Spain, Italy, UK) as well as South East Asia (including Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan), collectively producing over 50 million powered two-wheelers per year world-wide.



S. Sandilya’s appointment as the chief of the International Motorcycle Industry is of immense recognition as this is the first time in the Indian automotive history that an Indian administrator has been appointed the chief of an International Manufacturers Association. It is a befitting development complimenting the strong growth reported by the Indian two-wheeler industry which is the second largest two-wheeler market in the world, second to China. As an emerging market, having an Indian personnel heading the global two-wheeler association of manufacturers could help in strengthening the Indian two-wheeler industry as well as aid the global manufacturers draw benefits from the Indian landscape.

“With the increased need of urban mobility across all regions of the world, two-wheeler industry would continue to offer optimum solution for commuters and IMMA strives to reduce the environmental impact made by Powered Two Wheelers and improve all aspects of their technical safety” said Mr S Sandilya, President, IMMA. The International Motorcycle Manufacturers Association works closely with legislators and consumers and communicates with global establishments such as United Nations UNECE WP.29, (Working Party for Construction of Vehicles), UN Working Party on General Road Traffic Safety (WP.1), WTO, APEC, ISO, European Commission among others.
