Simple Energy, the Bengaluru-based startup, has just launched its maiden product, the Simple One, in the country at Rs 1,09,999 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). It not only looks sporty but is also loaded with features and segment-leading claimed range. Take a look at the nitty-gritties of this made-in-India electric scooter in detailed images:
Simple Energy has made sure the scooter looks sleek and sporty from all angles. That said, it’s hard to not mistake it for the Ather 450X at first glance. But that isn’t necessarily a bad thing as the One’s will still appeal to the youth.
The electric scooter features an all-LED lighting system. The inverted triangular headlamp features the “Simple” logo for an added premium look.
The 7-inch touchscreen instrument cluster features on-board navigation, call/music control, geofencing and even shows the tyre pressures via the standard tyre pressure monitoring system.
The left switchgear is reminiscent of the one on the TVS NTorq 125. The fit and finish isn’t exactly top-notch but this is a pre-production model. We hope the production version looks a lot better finished.
Even the rear view mirrors look properly sporty and aerodynamic. It goes quite well with the overall demeanour of the electric scooter.
The ribbed floor-board gets decent space to plant your feet. Sadly, there’s no utility hook below the seat.
At 775mm, the seat is reasonably accessible. This coupled with the 110kg kerb weight and reverse mode should make the scooter fairly easy to manoeuvre in tight parking spaces. The single-piece construction looks roomy enough for both the rider and the passenger. The pillion footrest is integrated into the side panel.
The Simple One comes with a fixed battery as well as a removable one weighing 7kg. The total claimed range stands at an incredible 203km in Eco mode at around 40-50kmph, and the removable battery alone offers around 60km range. While the fixed battery pack takes around 2.75 hours to charge from 0 to 80 percent, the removable one reaches the same level in about 75 minutes.
At 30 litres, the Simple One’s generous underseat storage is second only to the Ola S1’s 36-litre unit.
Powering the Simple One is a 4.5kW (nominal) permanent magnet motor linked to a chain drive. It produces a peak torque of 72Nm, and propels the electric scooter from 0-40kmph in just 2.95 seconds. This makes it the quickest electric scooter in India.
The electric scooter is suspended using a telescopic fork up front and a monoshock at the rear. It rolls on 12-inch wheels at both ends.
The Simple One comes to a halt using a 200mm front and 190mm rear petal disc with patented combined braking and regenerative braking system.
Simple Energy offers the tyres in two sizes: 90/90 (front and rear), and 100/80 front and 110/80 rear for better grip and handling.
All in all, the Simple One is an excellent maiden product from the startup, considering the kind of (claimed) range, features and performance it offers. Would you rather buy this or go for the Ola S1 Pro or the Ather 450X? Let us know in the comments below.
