UK-based Sinnis Motorcycles has introduced the new GPX 125 in Europe in the competitive 125cc supersport segment. But in a class dominated by the likes of the Yamaha YZF-R125, KTM RC 125, and the Suzuki GSX-R125, does this new bike stand a chance?
In terms of performance, not really. The European regulations limit the 125cc class to 15PS, and most of the bikes produce exactly that, except for the Sinnis GPX 125. The liquid-cooled 125cc motor delivers only 12.7PS and 10.6Nm. But then again, this motorcycle is for learners, so performance may not be a priority for many.
The puny engine is placed in a tubular steel frame suspended on a USD fork and a link-type monoshock. Braking duties have been entrusted to disc brakes at both ends, with axial calipers. While the underpinnings are on par with the competitors, Sinnis has opted for a combined braking system instead of ABS; the latter is a must for learners.
Where the Sinnis GPX 125 stands apart is the styling, which gives it a big-bike appeal, especially with the full-LED headlight that seems to be inspired by the electric superbike, Damon Hypersport. The aggressive vents and sharp tail accentuate the design, making it look like a 200cc bike, which it is…in a way.
The Sinnis GPX 125 is essentially a rebadged and downsized GPX Demon GR200R launched in Malaysia last year. Everything from the Demon has been carried over to the Sinnis motorcycle, including the LCD instrument console. Also, despite the smaller engine, the GPX 125’s 155kg kerb weight is the same as the GR200R.
Sinnis has priced the GPX 125 at GBP 3299, which roughly translates to Rs 3.31 lakh. For reference, the 2021 KTM RC 125 carries a tag of GBP 5049 (Rs 5.07 lakh), making it considerably more expensive than the Sinnis. Guess its pricing and styling are the only weapons in its arsenal to take on the competition.
