Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd is planning a slew of new launches under its India 2.0 strategy. You can view Skoda’s exciting lineup for the Auto Expo 2020 right here. However, if you’re waiting for a new Skoda, Volkswagen or an Audi TDI model, we have some disappointing news for you. The entire VW Group is planning to get rid of diesel models in the BS6 era. Yes, you read that right.

Upcoming cars from the Volkswagen Group will come with updated BS6-compliant powertrains. Diesel-only models such as the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Skoda Kodiaq will also come with a new petrol powertrain. Skoda Auto VW India is also working on new powertrains to keep the fun-to-drive quotient high. For instance, the 1.5-litre TDI engine in the Rapid and Vento will be traded in for the BS6-compliant 1.0-litre TSI engine that’s likely to develop 115PS.

On the other hand, the facelifted Skoda Superb will come with a powerful 2.0-litre TSI engine that’ll replace the existing 1.8-litre TSI and 2.0-litre TDI engine. Even Audi India has reported that it will launch petrol and electric models in the country in the BS6 era. For reference, the recently launched A6 and the upcoming Q8 don’t have a diesel variant.

These powertrains won’t be upgraded to meet BS6 emission norms and will be phased out by April 2020. However, the VW Group could bring back diesel variants in case of  healthy demand in the BS6 era. Meanwhile, if you intend to buy a new TDI car, now is the right time as Skoda and VW are offering good discounts on their diesel cars.
