  • It will be powered by the same 2.0-litre TSI engine from the RS230, but makes 245PS and 370Nm.
  • Bookings are currently open on the company website for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh.
  • Deliveries are expected to commence once the lockdown is over.

Post its debut at Auto Expo 2020, Skoda was expected to commence deliveries of the Octavia RS245 sedan sometime this month. However, due to the lockdown imposed to contain the spread of coronavirus in the country, it is currently on hold. Nonetheless, the performance oriented Octavia has been spotted at dealerships in India ahead of its rollout later this year. Bookings for the sedan were opened on the company’s website on March 1 for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh.

While the pictures show a white cover on multiple Octavia RS245 models, they reveal three of the five color options that will be on offer: Rallye Green, Race Blue, and Corrida Red. Magic Black and Candy White are the other two body shades that will be on offer.  Exterior highlights in the RS245 include bigger 18-inch wheels, dedicated RS badges and a 15mm lower ground clearance.

On the inside, the Octavia RS245 features Alcantara sports seats, contrast red stitching, RS badges and a flat-bottom steering wheel. It also gets a digital instrument display and a bigger 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The main talking point of the RS245 variant is what’s under the hood. It will be powered by the same 2.0-litre TSI engine from the RS230. However, here it delivers 245PS/370Nm through the front wheels. It makes the RS245 more powerful by 15PS and 50Nm than the RS230. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 7-speed DSG coupled to an electronic limited slip differential. This gives the sedan a 0-100kmph sprint time of 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 250kmph. It also gets a vRS mode that alters the characteristics of the engine, electronic assists, and stability control systems.

It will be sold at a price tag of Rs 36 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and limited to just 200 units. Expect Skoda to commence deliveries of the performance sedan once the lockdown is over. However it is difficult to predict a timeline for when that will happen.
