If you’ve had your eyes set on the Skoda Rapid Rider Edition, we’ve got some grim news for you. The Czech carmaker has temporarily halted bookings for this particular variant due to huge demand. In case you’re wondering how come the base-spec variant of the Rapid is so popular, let us explain.

This variant of the Skoda Rapid offers incredible value for money. Priced at Rs 7.49 lakh (ex-showroom), it undercuts many top-spec sub 4-metre sedans and premium hatchbacks. The size-to-money ratio is larger here. At the end of the day, who doesn’t like a car from a segment above with significantly more power when it’s priced aggressively.

Size is not the only thing that works in its favour. It comes with a decent amount of features too. Since it’s a base-spec variant, you don’t get a touchscreen audio system, a multi-info display or even power-folding ORVMS. But, it gets all the essentials such as a 2-DIN audio system with USB and AUX IN, climate control, power windows, keyless entry and 15-inch steel wheels. On the safety front, it comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and parking sensors.

It is also almost Rs 4.3 lakh cheaper than the top-spec model. You can use that extra money to slap on some sportier aftermarket alloy wheels, upgrade your sound system or (whisper it… ) remap the 110PS 1.0-litre TSI engine for more horsepower. We believe this sounds like a steal for enthusiasts.

Bookings for the Skoda Rapid Rider will resume once the manufacturer clears the existing orders. While it locks horns with the VW Vento, Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna, its pricing puts it in the ballpark of Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Aura. Here’s a closer look at the Rapid Rider in our detailed walkaround video.
