We all know that Skoda is gearing up to launch the automatic variants of the Rapid TSI. Pre-launch bookings are open for a token amount of Rs 25,000 and we have already revealed the variants it will be offered ahead of its launch. Now, the Czech carmaker has announced that the Rapid TSI automatic will be launched on September 17.
The automatic gearbox should increase the Rapid’s appeal as it will be offered right from the second-to-base Rider Plus variant. We expect it to command a premium of around Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh over its corresponding manual variant. Here’s a look at the Rapid manual’s prices:

The Rapid TSI AT will be powered by the Volkswagen Group’s new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that develops 110PS of power and 175Nm of torque. It will come paired to a 6-speed torque converter untike the now discontinued Rapid diesel AT, which came with a dual-clutch automatic transmission. Like the new AT variant, the now discontinued 1.6-litre petrol motor too was offered with a torque converter.

The rest of the Rapid will remain unchanged. The Rapid automatic is likely to be priced between Rs 9.5 lakh and Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom). It will fight it out with the automatic variants of the VW Vento, Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Toyota Yaris and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
