Skoda India has begun pre-launch bookings for the automatic variants of the Rapid for a token amount of Rs 25,000. If you have had your eyes set on the Rapid automatic, we have good news as we managed to get our hands on the Rapid AT’s variant list ahead of its mid-September launch.
The Rapid TSI automatic range will kickstart from the second-to-base Rider Plus variant and will be offered in all trims above it. Only the base-spec Rider variant will miss out on the automatic transmission. We expect the Rapid TSI AT to cost around Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh more than the equivalent manual variant. Powering the Skoda Rapid TSI Automatic will be a new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that develops 110PS of power and 175Nm of torque. Just like the earlier Rapid 1.6-litre MPI AT, the upcoming Rapid TSI AT will use a 6-speed torque converter instead of the quick-shifting dual-clutch transmission that was offered with the now-discontinued Rapid diesel. Will it affect the Rapid’s fun-to-drive nature? We can only answer that once we get behind the wheels of the Rapid TSI AT. So stay tuned.
There won’t be any changes to the Rapid’s design or feature list as this is only a mechanical update. You can read about the Rapid’s feature list right here and to read our detailed review of the Rapid’s manual variant, click here.
The Skoda Rapid TSI AT will lock horns with the automatic variants of the Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Toyota Yaris and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
