Waiting for the facelifted Skoda Superb? We got good news for you. Replying to a tweet, Zac Hollis, Director of Sales and Marketing, Skoda Auto India, has confirmed that the Superb facelift will launch in India in May 2020. He also revealed that the Kodiaq petrol will be launched by the end of 2020. The current version of both models will be discontinued in April 2020 as their existing powertrains won’t be upgraded to meet BS6 emission norms.
The new powertrain for the facelifted Superb and Kodiaq petrol will be the BS6 compliant 2.0-litre TSI engine. It develops 190PS of power and 320Nm of torque and will come mated with a 7-speed DSG transmission. The Superb’s engine will drive its front wheels while the Kodiaq’s unit will be mated to an all-wheel drive system. Nope, there won’t be a BS6 diesel variant initially in Skoda Auto Volkswagen India’s portfolio due to BS6 emission norms. However, it might bring back diesel engines if there’s enough demand from customers.
Currently, the Superb comes with a 177PS 2.0-litre TDI engine and a 180PS 1.8-litre TSI engine. The Kodiaq, on the other hand, comes with a 150PS 2.0-litre TDI engine. All three powertrains will face the axe once BS6 emission norms come into place. There will be a gap of silence until the Kodiaq makes a comeback as the petrol variant is slated for launch in end-2020.
