Sub-four meter Mahindra Verito

On a recent visit to Chennai, ZigWheels’ Vikram Gour got to snap these images of the forthcoming Mahindra Verito. The reason this car is wearing the camouflage stripes is due to the fact that the engineers at Mahindra Research Valley have been burning the midnight oil to lop off excess overhangs so as to make this top notch utility sedan to dip below the 4-metre mark. Subtle changes are evident especially on the boot which has been re-profiled and the placement of the registration number plate has also been changed. Slight changes abound up front but one would need to use a microscope to make them out.

What will be of significance given the excise breaks for cars less than 4-metres in length is the fact that the other riders to go with this would mean a 1.2-litre petrol or a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Mahindra doesn’t have the former so expect only the 1.5-litre diesel which is both a proven as well as a potent performer in its class. The Verito is one of the hardiest sedans’ available on the market and among its many strengths is its fantastic ride quality, ample cabin space, good comfort, fine driveability thanks to the linear torque thrust and decent mileage. If Mahindra can tart up the exterior then the Verito could get just the fillip it needed to go out and grab a larger chunk of the value sedan segment of the Indian car market. Other cars in this segment include the Tata Indigo eCS and the Suzuki Swift DZire. Expect a commercial launch of this sub-4-metre Verito in the coming couple of months.
