Features upgrades include more information on the instrument cluster, and new voice commands.
Is powered by the same 120PS 1-litre turbo-petrol engine from the standard i20, with iMT and DCT transmission options.
Performance enhancements include rear disc brakes, a retuned suspension, and paddle shifters.
It will rival the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI.
It's here. Hyundai has begun its performance-focused ‘N’ moniker’s India innings by unleashing the sporty i20 N Line. What’s more, it will go on sale on September 2, 2021, with bookings currently open at Hyundai’s Signature dealerships or via its official website at a token amount of Rs 25,000. It’ll also be sold only through Signature outlets, 188 of them in 97 cities. The i20 N Line is the entry point for Hyundai’s ‘N’ model range and comes with a whole lot of sporty enhancements over the standard model. Mind you, this is more of a BMW M340i instead of a full-blown M3.
For starters, the front end is bolder with a beefier front bumper, and a “chequered flag” grille design featuring the N Line logo. Elsewhere the i20 N Line gets bespoke 16-inch alloys with the ‘N’ logo, subtle tweaks to the rear bumper with a chrome twin-exhaust muffler, as well as a roof spoiler with side wings. There are also red accents on the bumpers and side skirts that add a nice bit of contrast.
It’ll be offered in four monotone body shades: Thunder Blue, Fiery Red, Titan Grey and Polar White. The first two body shades can also be availed with a dual-tone black roof option.
The sporty quotient continues inside with a 3-spoke steering wheel with paddle shifters, chequered flag-themed leather seats, red ambient lighting, metal pedals, as well as red inserts and stitching all around the cabin. There’s also the N-Line specific steering wheel, seats, and gear knob that set it apart from the standard model.
In terms of features, it comes with all the bells and whistles, retaining the same 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), and instrument cluster as the standard model. But the instrument cluster provides a little more info such as turn-by-turn navigation, park distance warning, and tyre pressure monitoring system.
The i20 N Line will also have new voice commands to control functions such as the electric sunroof, driver side window controls, live soccer scores, navigation, and contact information. Other notable features include wireless charging, smart entry with push button start, rear AC vents, a cooled glovebox, a 7-speaker Bose audio system, and puddle lamps with ‘welcome’ function
Safety kit includes six airbags, ESC, hill assist, rear parking sensors with camera, auto headlamps, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
It retains the 120PS/172Nm 1-litre turbo-petrol engine from the standard i20, and can be specced with either an iMT (clutchless manual) or a DCT transmission. That being said, Hyundai has given the i20 N Line a stiffer suspension setup, and has added disc brakes to the rear for additional stopping prowess. Paddle shifters on the DCT variant will allow you to take matters into your own hands if you’re in the mood for some fun. Fuel efficiency is rated at 20.25kmpl (DCT) and 20kmpl (iMT) which is the same as the standard model.
While Hyundai hasn’t revealed variant details, an RTO document hints it’ll be offered in the N6 and N8 variants, with the iMT (clutchless manual) transmission being available for both. The DCT gearbox, on the other hand, will be limited to the N8. They’re likely to be based on the Sportz, Asta, and Asta (O) from the standard model.
Expect the Hyundai i20 N Line to be priced at a premium over the top-spec standard model that retails at Rs 11.40 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Hyundai is also offering upto 31 accessories for the sporty hatchback. It will rival the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI in the Indian market.
