Spotted: Bajaj Boxer X150

Earlier this year, the Bajaj Boxer X150 was found testing around Lonavala and Pune. However, while the one tested in March was not camouflaged, this one is.

The Boxer is India’s most exported two-wheeler and while Bajaj currently hasn't planned on launching the X150 in India, it could be testing certain new components; hence the camouflage.
The X150 that's "made stronger to last longer" is the adventure version of the discontinued 150cc Bajaj Boxer. However, even if the X150 isn't available in India, it has been doing very well in the African market where it is known for its pragmatic worth. The bike was also recently launched in Malaysia.

The bike offers a blend of both, an adventure motorcycle and a commuter. One can go only so far so as to say that it is a motorcycle suitable for third world countries, thanks to its off-road friendly nature. What makes it a worthy adventure motorcycle are features like the knobby tyres that are designed to work well both on and off the road. The bike additionally comes with 1285mm of wheelbase which should help in manoeuvring it easily. It sports a raised front mudguard along with a windscreen to provide protection from dirt and muck to a certain extent.

Along with this, its commuter-friendly ergonomics can be seen through the raised handlebar, the relatively flat seat and aptly placed foot pegs to ensure a comfortable and upright riding posture.

It runs on a 144.8cc single-cylinder engine that churns out 12PS of power at 7500rpm and delivers 12.3Nm of torque at 5500rpm. The engine is mated to a 4-speed transmission gearbox.

At the front, it gets telescopic front forks with gaiters to protect it from dust. And at the rear, the bike employs Bajaj's patented Spring in Spring suspension, which not only works well, but is also cost-effective. Along with this, the bike gets a bigger single saddle, big enough for a heavy pillion and also comes with a rear rack to add to its utility quotient. It comes with both, an electric and a kick start.

The bike gets 130mm drum brakes on both ends and also sports 17-inch alloy wheels.The fuel tank capacity of the motorcycle stands at 11 litres, while it weighs 122 kg (kerb).

After the Hero Impulse was discontinued, there are no more off-road motorcycles on sale in the 150-200cc category today. If launched in India, it could turn out to be a good proposition for semi-rural, tier three cities that have, for long, found their faith and companionship in classic commuters.
