  • Gets similar EV specific design tweaks as the upcoming Mahindra eXUV300

  • Mahindra eXUV300’s MESMA 350 electric powertrain likely to power the SsangYong EV.

  • The E100 EV will launch in South Korea by 2021.

  • The Mahindra eXUV300 is expected in India in 2021.

SsangYong has just dropped a teaser of its first electric vehicle, the E100 SUV, which is slated for a launch around the first half of 2021. The E100 is essentially an electric iteration of the Tivoli compact SUV which shares its platform with the Mahindra XUV300

The teaser images reveal various similarities to the electric version of the XUV300 (eXUV300) that was showcased at Auto Expo 2020. The E100 retains the overall silhouette of the standard Tivoli, but gets EV specific modifications such as a revised set of bumpers, new  headlights and fog lamps as well as a closed off front grille.

While technical details are still under wraps, the E100 could share the same electric powertrain as the eXUV300. This is considering the fact that the standard 2020 Tivoli in Europe borrows Mahindra’s 1.2-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine from the upcoming XUV300 Sportz. Detailed specs of the eXUV300 are yet to be revealed.

Thus, it would seem natural to expect the E100 to be built on the same Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture (MESMA 350 volt powertrain) that the eXUV300 will also get its juice from. Mahindra has claimed that this platform supports motor sizes ranging from 60kW (82PS) to 280kW (380PS) dual motor concepts and battery sizes up to 80kWh.

As is the case with the SsangYong E100, there’ll be a long wait before we see the Mahindra eXUV300 in Indian shores as the electric SUV is slated for a launch in 2021 with prices expected to start from Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom India) onwards. Once launched, it will take on the likes of the Tata Nexon EV.
