Stellantis is the merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA.
The four platforms are STLA Small, STLA Medium, STLA Large, and STLA Frame.
Three electric drive modules will be on offer with power ranging from 95PS to 449PS.
Powertrains are capable of the 0-100kmph sprint in 2 seconds with a charging time of 32km/min.
Stellantis predicts 98 percent of its lineup will be electrified by 2025.
Future models like Dodge’s first all-electric muscle car, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe are in the pipeline.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA (Peugeot and Citroen), jointly known as Stellantis, have outlined a vast roadmap for electrification, running till the end of this decade, at the Stellantis EV Day event. They also teased a few upcoming models, including Dodge’s first all-electric muscle car for 2024 and the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe.
For starters, the 14 brands under this umbrella, from both sides of the Atlantic, will have four dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) platforms for their future offerings. The first one is the STLA Small platform for city cars. The STLA Medium will cater to premium cars, with the STLA Large being used for all-wheel-drive performance models and muscle cars. The fourth platform, STLA Frame, will be reserved for large SUVs, pick-up trucks, and commercial vehicles. While the first three platforms will utilise a unibody design, the STLA Frame will have a ladder-on-frame design.
These four platforms will also have the option of three electric drive modules that combine the motor, gearbox, and inverter. They are compatible with front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, and Jeep’s 4xe drivetrains. Let’s take a look at their technical capabilities:

Besides, the four platforms have a 0-100kmph sprint time of as low as two seconds! Stellantis will also use two battery chemistries: a high-energy density option and a nickel cobalt-free alternative from 2024. It also plans to introduce solid-state battery technology in 2026. Speaking of battery tech, charging times are claimed to be 32km/min.
Future models from Stellantis will also benefit from its tie-up with Apple iPhone assembler Foxconn. By this we mean, digital cockpits with advanced connected tech, cloud service platforms, artificial intelligence-based applications, 5G communication, and constant over-the-air updates.
With this roadmap, Stellantis will invest more than 30 billion euros by 2025. It’s also looking at electrification of 98 percent of its model lineup around the same time. Stellantis is estimating 70 percent of European sales and 40 percent of car sales in the US to come from full-electric or plug-in-hybrid models by 2030.
So what does this mean for the Indian market? Well, nothing really in the short term. For now, Jeep India is prepping a new 7-seater SUV for 2022 and the return of the Grand Cherokee moniker via a next-gen localised model. Citroen, on the other hand, will introduce a made-for-India sub-4 metre SUV next year.
