Super Carry signals the entry of Maruti Suzuki in LCV segment

The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) announced its entry in the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segment today. MSIL will commence sales of its first LCV product Super Carry near the end of August. The vehicle will initially be on sale in three cities - Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Ludhiana. Prospective buyers will definitely gravitate towards the Super Carry as it carries the Maruti Suzuki brand name signifying the company's reliability and unmatched after-sales support in the country.

R.S Kalsi, Executive Director of Marketing & Sales at MSIL, said that the Super Carry has been designed and developed on the basis of detailed research and understanding of customer requirements. To that end, it would offer not just power and strength but also the carrying capacity to enhance the profitability of its customers. He added that the Super Carry would be sold through a dedicated 'Commercial' sales channel.

The Super Carry is powered by a 793cc two-cylinder engine that is both lightweight and compact. The engine puts down peak power of 33PS at 3,500rpm and peak torque of 75Nm at 2,000rpm. This engine has been mated with a 5-speed manual transmission. Maruti Suzuki India claims a fuel economy figure of 22.07kmpl and the top speed of 80kmph for the Super Carry. The Super Carry can handle a payload of up to 740kg on all terrains. It is equipped with a light steering wheel and sports a 4.3m turning radius.

The Super Carry has a wheelbase of 2110mm. The loading bay has been set low and the deck is wide on the Super Carry, claims MSIL. The chassis of the Super Carry has been made with rust-resistant galvanised steel and it has McPherson Strut suspension system up front. There are disc brakes up front with Load Sensing Proportioning Valve technology on the Super Carry with drum brakes at the rear. It sports Outside Rear View Mirrors on both sides.

The Super Carry comes equipped with features such as mobile charging socket, provision for a stereo, integrated rain guard, openable sliding back window glass and conveniently-located spare wheel carrier. Its instrument cluster has readouts for odometer, trip meter, fuel and clock.

Maruti Suzuki India has spent Rs 300 crore on the development of the Super Carry. Customers can opt between Superior White and Silky Silver colour options for the Super Carry. The Super Carry will has been priced at Rs 4,03,000 (Ahmedabad), Rs 4,01,000 (Ludhiana) and Rs 4,11,000 (Kolkata).
