Ian Lougher is making a return to the Isle of Man TT this year aboard the Suter MMX 500. He is one of the most experienced road racers in the world with 10 TT wins, 8 wins at the North West 200 and 18 wins at the Ulster Grand Prix in his career. According to Lougher, the MMX 500’s low weight and agility would be its strong point rather than its straight line speed. It’s the same bike Ian Lougher used in the 2016 Isle of Man TT, where his average pace for the course was measured at 194.7kmph.
The MMX 500 will be the one and only two-stroke race machine to go head-to-head with four-stroke monsters in the Senior TT this year. It will compete in two classes - RST Superbike and PokerStars Senior TT Races.
Powering the bike is a 580cc, V-four, two-stroke engine which produces 197PS at 13,000rpm while pushing a weight of just 125kg. According to Suter, the powerplant is strong enough to get the MMX 500 to a staggering 310kmph! The manufacturer also stated that they’ve improved the engine’s power output, which will help 10-time TT winner Ian Lougher to go even faster than previously recorded.
Ahead of the race, Ian Lougher said, “It goes without saying, I am excited to be racing the Suter MMX500 again at the Isle of Man TT races. I feel that after all the hard work put in by the entire Suter team and myself, it’s very much unfinished business and I can’t wait to go testing.
With practice sessions underway, we can’t wait to see the Suter MMX 500 blitz past others, and maybe, even be one of the top contenders this season.
