Likely to replace the existing Maruti Suzuki A-Star, Suzuki's new concept A:Wind will be the next generation Maruti A-Star for India and Suzuki Alto for other international markets.
The nameplate Celerio will ditch age-old name Alto that enjoys a good reputation in all its markets, and has over 30 years of history. Suzuki Celerio was previewed through the concept A:Wind which debuted at the Thailand International Motor Expo last week. The company officials announced that the concept will materialize into a global car, and that production would commence in Thailand next year.
The concept A:Wind measured 3,600 mm x 1,600 mm x 1,540 mm (L x W x H) and had a wheelbase spanning 2,425 mm. It was powered by a 996 cc engine (mostly the current 1.0L K-Series unit) matched to a CVT gearbox.
The car's front end is dominated by the imposing front grille with integrated headlights and the character lines that extend along the sides. On the inside, the front and rear seats have been extended, the interior has a bi-colour layout matching the exterior paint (Energy Yellow or Panoramic Blue) and has a modern looking dashboard that includes digital instruments and a touch screen in the center console.
Also, if the speculations are to be believed, there are possibilities that Maruti Suzuki might be displaying A:Wind concept at the 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi.
