The GSX-S1000GT is Suzuki’s flagship sports tourer, replacing the GSX-S1000F
  • The GSX-S1000GT is essentially a sport touring trim of the naked GSX-S1000.

  • Gets an all-new design, with a revised front fairing and twin projector lamp-equipped fascia.

  • It continues to draw power from the 999cc inline-four engine which has been tweaked to meet Euro-5 norms.

  • In April this year, Suzuki introduced the heavily updated GSX-S1000. Five months later, the Japanese giant has now unveiled the GSX-S1000’s sport touring sibling, the GSX-S1000GT. In Suzuki’s big bike lineup, the new GSX-S1000GT replaces the GSX-S1000F, and there’s really a world of difference between them.

The Suzuki GSX-S100GT gets an all-new design. While it certainly looks more modern than the GSX-S1000F, it isn’t really a crowd-pleaser. Up front, you get a new fascia with twin projector headlamps with a unique LED DRL in the middle. Also part of the package are new fairings and a taller windscreen, which Suzuki claims to decrease wind resistance.

Rounding off the design is the new tail section that gets a squarish LED taillight. In the writer’s opinion, the rear styling doesn’t really go well with the rest of the bike. Another thing that looks unimpressive is the small exhaust, which seems out of proportion and a little too tiny.

In the cockpit, the GSX-S1000GT gets a new 6.5-inch colour TFT display (the first Suzuki bike to do so) with Suzuki’s mySPIN app connectivity features. Thanks to the app, you can access turn-by-turn navigation, stream music, track location, share route, and check weather information. Additionally, you get a decent electronics suite too, including traction control, SDMS (Suzuki Drive Mode Selector), low RPM assist, a bi-directional quickshifter, and cruise control.

Compared to the GSX-S1000F, the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT has a 23mm wider handlebar, new rider and pillion seats, and rubber inserts on the footpegs, all aimed to help serve its sport-touring purpose better than ever.

What remains unchanged, however, is the engine. The GSX-S1000GT draws power from the same 999cc inline-four as the GSX-S1000F, now tweaked to meet Euro-5 norms. It puts out 152PS and 106Nm.

Now, to the underpinnings. The new Suzuki sports tourer carries over the same 43mm KYB fork and Brembo radial calipers. The big change, though, is the addition of the new bolt-on trellis-type sub-frame and lighter six-spoke alloy wheels, which will lower the unsprung mass and improve handling.

Thanks to all the gains, the 2021 GSX-S1000GT weighs 226kg, a massive 11kg more than the bike it replaces. But the low 810mm seat height should make it easy to live with. For reference, the Gixxer’s arch-rival, the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX, tips the scale at 238kg and has a seat height of 835mm.

All said and done, the GSX-S1000GT is certainly Suzuki’s best sports tourer yet. Considering the GSX-S1000F was on sale here, we hope to see its replacement in India too.
