The Ertiga is the most in-demand MPV in the country right now along with the Innova Crysta and the Mahindra Marazzo. However, it doesn’t enjoy its revered status in India only. It is also a customer favorite in Indonesia where it has recently received a sporty avatar courtesy Suzuki Indonesia. It is called the Ertiga Sport. In essence, the Sport is a cosmetic tweaking of the overall aesthetics of the MPV rather than a retune.
For starters, it gets a new sporty mesh grille and a front-end that looks straight out of the Fast and the Furious. The front bumper sports new fog lamp surrounds and DRLs, below which sits a new front wing with accents on the splitter. It also gets side skirts and a reworked rear end. The tail lamp cluster remains the same, but the Ertiga Sport does get a new rear bumper with a faux diffuser and a rather sporty and not-so-conservative roof spoiler. New alloy wheels are also a part of the package. The interior layout is identical to the standard car with a couple of changes. The cabin upholstery is all-black on the Sport and it also gets the flat-bottomed steering wheel a la the Swift.
There is no certainty whether the Ertiga Sport will come to India or not, though, we think it will likely be the latter. But don’t lose heart yet. We know that Maruti Suzuki is planning a premium version of the Ertiga which will be sold through Nexa. While the upcoming MPV, will be based on the standard Ertiga, it will be a six-seater and could feature elements from the Ertiga Sport both inside and out. Nevertheless, we should get to know soon, as it is expected to launch in India in 2019 itself. So stay tuned.
