SYM, a Taiwanese two-wheeler giant, has launched its Jet X 150 scooter in Malaysia. It serves as an elder sibling to the Jet X 125 while plugging the gap between SYM’s 125cc and 300cc/400cc scooters.
Lauded for its handsome maxi-styled scooters, SYM has taken the same radical approach with the Jet X 150, evident from the brawny bodywork. Embedded in the bodywork is an edgy LED headlamp with razor sharp DRLs, adding to the Jet X’s sportiness.
SYM has further thrown in a digital instrument cluster, a smart key with a burglar alarm, all-LED illumination, a USB port, and a combined braking system (CBS).
The Jet X is powered by a 149.6cc single-cylinder motor pumping out 12PS and 12Nm This is 1PS more than India’s most powerful BS6 scooter, the Aprilia SXR 160.
All of these are suspended on a telescopic fork and adjustable dual gas shocks while braking duties are performed by a 260mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc.

The scooter is fairly accessible too, thanks to its low seat height of 780mm. One thing not in favour of the Jet X, though, is its 140kg dry weight, a massive 11kg more than the SXR 160’s kerb weight.
Lastly, the scooter comes in two variants, a standard and a special edition, retailing at RM 8,888 (Rs 1.56 lakh) and RM 9,188 (Rs 1.61 lakh) respectively. While its chances of coming to India are bleak as it isn’t Euro-5/BS6 compliant, a SYM scooter was spotted on our streets just a few months back.
