Tacita is an Italian two-wheeler manufacturer known for its electrically powered off-road vehicles. But it’s the first time ever that the company has introduced a cruiser motorcycle called T-Cruise, which was officially unveiled at the AIMExpo show in Columbus, Ohio.
With many manufacturers opting to unveil their products at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show in late October and the annual EICMA show in Italy, Tacita planned to unveil its new model in the US, since it is the target market for the T-Cruise.
The new Tacita seems to have taken inspiration from the UM Renegade, which is again, so-called American. It is powered by a liquid-cooled, asynchronous, three-phase induction motor, which has been developed in-house. The electric powerplant gives the rider a choice of two power modes - Eco and Sport. The claimed peak power of 40.7PS is produced at 8000rpm, with a maximum torque of 70 Nm. Channeling this power to the rear wheel is Tacita’s proprietary 5-speed gearbox that comes with a reverse gear as well. Now, the T-Cruise is chain driven, but the company has pointed out that the final drive can alternatively employ a belt as well.
The T-Cruise is offered with three different 120V lithium-polymer battery packs. First is the 7.5kW base kit, which offers a range of up to 81km, before the reserve mode kicks in. The second variant comes with a 15kW battery that offers a range of 149km. And then, there is the long-range model with a 27kW battery, which offers the T-Cruise a cruising range of 270km.
Charging time also changes, based on the battery pack selected, and could be anywhere from two to seven hours. That said, there is an optional fast charger available as well, which can charge the T-Cruise by 80 per cent in just 40 minutes.
Speaking of mechanical components, the T-cruise features non-adjustable 41mm front forks and dual shock absorbers with preload adjustment at the rear. Braking duties are taken care of by Brembo callipers that slam onto a 280mm disc up front and a 240mm rear disc, which is linked by combined braking for added safety and a circuit to recharge the battery while braking.
The saddle on offer gets double memory foam and the rider can also adjust the footpegs in three different positions, for a comfortable riding posture.
The standard variant with the 7.5kW pack is priced at $ 10,999 (Rs 7.17 lakh), while the mid variant with a 15kW pack retails for $ 4,000 (Rs 2.6 lakh) more. The top-end variant with the long-range 27kW battery pack costs a hefty $ 27,999 (Rs 18.27 lakh).
