The much anticipated crossover SUV from Tata is all set to be unveiled next year. Christened as either the Indicruz or the Xover, the car is expected to offer stiff competition to the likes of the Mahindra Xylo and the Toyota Innova.

The car was recently spotted undergoing a lot of testing on public roads. Just like Nano, Zigwheels is giving its readers one of the first glimpses of the camouflaged vehicle. As expected the vehicle is pretty generous in its dimensions. What is also noticeable is that the vehicle is much lower than the Xylo or the Innova making its 'Crossover' pedigree clear. The vehicle is expected to be heavily based on the Xover concept that was unveiled at the 2005 Geneva Auto Show.

According to Tata, the car will combine the advantages of a family luxury tourer with the driving dynamics of an SUV. According to industry sources a team of a 150 engineers are working on the product for the last three years. The UK R&D centre which designed the structure of the Nano is said to have made significant contributions for this car as well. And the effort shows. The test mules we saw were really galloping and we literally had to floor our Xylo to get a good snap.

With both the Xylo and the Innova doing great numbers, Tata will be hoping the vehicle goes well with the consumers and give a big boost to their UV-SUV sales.
