Tata Motors has been constantly updating the Harrier based on customer feedback and in a bid to keep it fresh amidst rising competition, the carmaker is all set to introduce an all-black edition of the SUV soon. The black edition of the Harrier will be launched next month, which will be the second update after it recently got dual-tone exterior colour options. Just after hitting its 10,000 sales mark, the manufacturer had added a dual-tone variant for the popular mid-size SUV based on customer feedback.

The introduction of the black colour in the Harrier is a welcome addition. It makes the attractive looking SUV look even meaner. Apart from the introduction of the new shade, other changes on the black edition include a blacked out 17-inch wheels and skid plates at the front and back. The only elements that gives a shade of contrast are the chrome window sills and the badging at the front and rear, which haven't been tinkered with.
Keeping up with the all-black theme outside, the interiors too will get the same treatment. The brown coloured upholstery on the seats and door pads will be replaced by, you guessed it, black! Also, the faux wood panel on the dashboard will be replaced by a more tactile looking dark grey one. Neat!
With the introduction of the new colour, the Harrier will now be available with a total of six options: Atlas Black, Calisto Copper, Thermisto Gold, Orcus White, Telesto Grey and Ariel Silver.

The Harrier Black will remain mechanically unchanged. However, Tata is already working on a more powerful version of the SUV, which will be launched in the coming months. The 2.0-litre Kryotec engine will be updated to meet upcoming BS6 emission norms and is expected to develop 170PS of power and 350Nm of torque. Currently, it churns out 140PS and 350Nm.
The Harrier is also expected to get a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed automatic transmission which will boost the SUV’s appeal further. An all-wheel drive variant is also on the cards further down the line.
Apart from that, Tata Motors is also working on a 7-seater Harrier. Showcased as the Buzzard at the Geneva Motor Show, the model has been spied testing here on our roads and is slated to hit our roads by the end of 2019.

The Tata Harrier is priced from Rs 13 lakh to Rs 16.76 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It rivals the MG Hector, Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta and the upcoming Kia Seltos.
