Two models have been spotted, one sporting a body shade similar to Tectonic Blue and the other in white

  • Latest images reveal a Harrier-like split headlamp setup and a radiator grille mesh that seems similar to the Nexon.

  • Previous cabin shots showed a similar layout to the concept and borrowed bits from the Altroz.

  • Likely to be powered by the Altroz’ 1.2-litre petrol engine with manual and AMT transmission options.

  • Expect its name and launch timeline to be unveiled around Diwali 2021.

The production-spec Tata HBX has been spied partly camouflaged, revealing more design details, in fact, at a glance, it looks like a crossover between the Harrier and the Nexon with the concept’s SUV-esque upright stance.

Up front, the HBX really looks like a Nexon-Harrier crossover. The Harrier bit lies in the split-headlamp design with slots for DRLs running along the bonnet. Similarities with the Nexon extend to the grille and air dam, which seems to get a tri-arrow mesh. We also noticed that the production model is pretty rugged like the concept, with oodles of black cladding, especially on the side profile.

The shedded camo also shows a darker shade of Tectonic Blue, which was axed from the Tiago and Nexon, with contrasting white on the roof. The other spied model was sporting white exteriors. Speaking of the second model, a look at its rear reveals tail lamps similar to the concept. Aside from that, the mini SUV features a chunky silhouette and split-four-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels (possibly 16-inches) that were spotted earlier.

Previously spied cabin shots showed its cabin is similar to the concept, with a floating touchscreen infotainment system, instrument cluster, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and climate control knobs borrowed from the Altroz. Other highlights include USB charging ports, climate control, cruise control, and push-button start/stop. Also expect a Harman audio system and safety kit such as dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors.

The HBX will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine from the Altroz that makes 86PS and 113Nm, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. We might also get an AMT option as indicated by a test mule spied previously. An all-electric powertrain could also be on the cards.

Expect Tata to disclose the HBX mini SUV’s name and launch timeline around Diwali 2021. It could be priced from Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards and rival the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100 NXT.
