Images of the forthcoming new car – the Tata Kite (Update 9/02/2017: model now called Tata Tigor) doing test rounds in the country had surfaced on the web several times. This time images partially revealing the interior of this car have leaked online.
The dashboard of the test mule was heavily camouflaged to hide the features of this upcoming new car. However, we can still figure out from the spy shots that the new Kite receives a multi-functional steering wheel, power window switches and a gear lever from the Tata Bolt. The higher variants of the car are expected to come equipped with power ORVMs, and four speakers and two tweeters.
The forthcoming new Kite receives a new centre console and rectangular shaped AC vents. The air-con system is, however, manual and does not feature automatic climate control. The new Kite will not get a 2-Din touchscreen display that was rumoured to foray on this car.
The new Tata Kite hatch will replace the aging Tata Indica an aggressive design language. The car will sport a black mesh grille, new headlamps and a new front bumper. At the rear end, the Christmas tree taillamps seen on the Tata Indica will be replaced by new taillamps. The top-spec variants are expected to get a redesigned boot-lid, and a rear spoiler.
The new Tata Kite will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options. A 1.2-litre petrol engine is expected to do duty under the new Kite. Reports also suggest that the car may come equipped with a new three-cylinder oil-burner. Gearbox options will include a standard 5-speed manual unit, while an automated manual transmission (AMT) could also be offered.
Just like the recently launched, Tata Zest, the Kite, too, shall have a compact sedan sibling that will based on the Tata Indigo eCs platform. Both the cars will be manufactured at the carmaker’s production facility in Sanand, Gujarat.
