With Tata’s Tiago, Tigor and the Nexon doing well in the market, one would expect the homegrown carmaker to pull the plug on the ageing Zest compact sedan and Bolt hatchback. But not so fast! Tata has just launched a special edition of the Zest called the Premio Edition to give the sub-4 metre compact sedan a new lease of life. Priced at Rs 7.53 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi), the special edition has been launched to celebrate 85,000 units of the Zest on Indian roads. At this price point, the Premio Edition sits right under the top-spec XT trim (Rs 7.88 lakh). So, let’s check out the kind of goodies you get with it, shall we?
For starters, the Premio Edition is only available with the 1.3-litre, 75PS/190Nm diesel engine sourced from Fiat. The motor is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The sedan features black-finished bonnet strip, rood and ORVMs. A boot lip spoiler finished in the same shade is available as an option. In terms of colours on offer, the Premio Edition can be had in either Titanium Grey or Platinum Silver. The 15-inch steel wheels are covered with black satin-finished wheel covers.
On the inside, the sedan gets new seat fabric with contrast stitching and ‘Premio’ badging. The centre of the dashboard finished in tan is the only other thing that is different from the standard variant. The Premio Edition’s feature list is akin to the XM variant and features a touchscreen infotainment system with navigation from Harman. The special edition Zest goes up against the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Volkswagen Ameo, the Hyundai Xcent and the upcoming 2018 Honda Amaze. With these minor updates, we expect the Zest to soldier alongside the more popular Tigor for the foreseeable future.
