Tata Motors has unveiled the Gravitas SUV at Auto Expo 2020. The flagship SUV from Tata is essentially a longer Harrier with a third row of seats. It comes with the updated BS6-compliant 2.0-litre Kryotec engine and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The Tata Gravitas is expected to hit showrooms by April 2020.

Visually, the Gravitas looks similar to the Harrier when viewed head-on as both models share the same bold fascia. At the side, the Gravitas’ extra length is instantly noticeable. The roof has been stepped up to accommodate third-row occupants. Speaking of which, the tailgate has been redesigned to be more upright. Other design upgrades include new split LED tail lamps and 18-inch machine-finished alloy wheels. 

In terms of size, the Tata Gravitas is 63mm longer and 80mm taller than the Harrier -- but just as wide. Both models share the same wheelbase despite the Gravitas packing in a third-row bench. Here’s a detailed dimensions comparison between both models:

Inside, the Gravitas shares its dashboard and feature list with the Harrier. Highlights include an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 9-speaker JBL sound system, automatic climate control, terrain modes, drive modes, cruise control, a coloured multi-info display, as well as keyless entry with push-button start. It also packs in a sunroof.

Safety features include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, a rear view camera, electronic stability program, hill hold control, and hill descent control.

Under the hood, the Gravitas comes with a BS6-compliant 2.0-litre Kryotec engine (FCA’s Multijet) that develops 170PS of power and 350Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission sourced from Hyundai.

The Tata Gravitas is expected to be priced at Rs 1 lakh over the Harrier, which starts from Rs 13.44 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming MG Hector 6-seater.
