The H2X will sit below the Nexon in the Tata lineup
  • The teaser shows redesigned multi-reflector taillamps; the headlamps may be revamped as well.
  • Expect a touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, and a multi-information display.
  • Likely to borrow the BS6 1.2-litre petrol engine from the Tiago.
  • The H2X may also get an all-electric version in the future.

Tata Motors has officially teased the H2X sub-4m SUV ahead of its unveiling at Auto Expo 2020. The carmaker has tweeted a picture of the upcoming SUV’s tail lamp announcing its expo reveal. The H2X will sit below the Nexon sub-4m SUV in Tata’s lineup. It is likely to be priced upwards of Rs 5 lakh when launched.

The exterior of the production model is expected to retain its baby-Harrier looks and upright stance. Tata’s tweet of the taillamp shows a redesigned multi-reflector diamond-shaped unit in place of the concept’s LED taillamps. The concept was wider and taller, but shorter in length than the Nexon. These proportions are likely to be carried over to the production model. Spy shots tell us that it will retain the LED DRL eyebrows and have an upright front design.

Just like the H2X concept, the production-spec model will be offered with a floating infotainment screen seen in other Tata cars. Steering mounted audio controls, climate control, and a multi-information display are expected to be a part of the top-spec H2X’s features list as well.

Under the bonnet, we are likely to find Tata’s BS6 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine from the Tiago. It is likely to retain its 86PS and 114Nm power and torque output. Since the 1.05-litre diesel engine has been discontinued, the H2X is unlikely to get a diesel variant.

While the first production model is likely to be powered by a petrol engine, subsequent iterations could get an electric powertrain. Tata’s Nexon electric vehicle (EV) gets an ARAI-certified range of 312km and produces 129PS of power. The electric H2X SUV could be priced lower than the Nexon EV which retails from Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India).
