Tata's pavilion at the 2018 Auto Expo is easily among the most exciting, giving us a glimpse into the future of Indian mobility. But it's also given us something to cheer for in the present. The Indian manufacturer took the wraps off the AMT avatar of its popular compact, the Nexon! Unfortunately, Tata has only showcased the Nexon AMT and not specified when it will be launched in the country.
The automated manual transmission is based on the same 6-speed manual gearbox (TA6300) that does duty under the bonnet of the Nexon. Much like other AMT Tatas, the Nexon also features the de rigueur creep mode. This means you do not have to feather the throttle to get going. Lifting off the brakes lets it crawl, which should be a boon in choc-a-bloc traffic.
The two-pedal tech is available with the petrol as well as diesel variant of the Nexon. For reference, the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol motor makes 110PS of power and 170Nm of peak torque. The 1.5-litre diesel engine, on the other hand, is good for 110PS and 260Nm. The Nexon's drive modes - Eco, City and Sport - have been carried over as is to the AMT variant.
Other than the addition of the AMT there's no addition to the feature list of the Nexon. The top-spec variant continues to get goodies such as projector headlamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, an 8-speaker Harman-Kardon audio system and a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto.
We've already road-tested the Nexon; make sure you check out our review. Goes without saying, we will be getting our hands on the automatic Nexons as soon as possible, so stay tuned to ZigWheels for a detailed review report.
