Even though January 2020 is more than half done, Tata Motors still has a slew of launches lined up for the remainder of the month, leading up to the Auto Expo. This includes the Altroz hatchback as well as the Nexon, Tiago and Tigor facelifts. And now reports suggest that the Nexon EV could join the fray with a 28 January launch date. It was already unveiled back in December 2019 with bookings currently open for a token amount of Rs 21,000. It will be offered in three variants- XM, XZ+ and XZ+ LUX.
Under the hood, it debuts Tata’s Ziptron electric powertrain, delivering 129Ps of power and 245Nm of torque, juiced up by a 30.2kWh battery pack. It is claimed to deliver 300km of range, along with nifty tech like braking regeneration. The electric SUV is also capable of fast-charging, that gives a 0 to 80 per cent charge in an hour. All this power propels the Nexon EV from 0-60kmph in 4.7 seconds and 0-100kmph in 9.9 seconds. It also gets Eco and Sport drive modes.
On the outside, the Nexon EV sports revised design elements compared to its standard counterpart. Some of them include a Harrier-like front end, a sleek grille coupled with projector headlamps and DRLs. Changes at the side consist of new 8-spoke alloy wheels, whereas the rear gets a revised tail lamp setup.
Going inside, it features a similar cabin to the standard Nexon, albeit some tweaks.Feature highlights include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with ConnectNext connected car tech as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other bits like climate control, a Harman sound system, a coloured multi-info display (MID), keyless entry and push-button start round off the equipment list. It comes with safety kit like dual airbags, ABS + EBD, ISOFIX, hill descent control, hill ascent control, rear parking sensors and a rearview camera.
At launch, prices for the electric SUV are likely to be starting from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom India). Its primary rival is likely to be the Mahindra XUV300 Electric that is slated for an Auto Expo 2020 reveal.
