Tata Motors is hard at work keeping its products fresh amidst rising competition. The manufacturer will soon launch the Harrier Black Edition while the JTP twins are set to get additional features. That’s not to say that Tata Motors has left the Nexon untouched. In a bid to keep the Nexon nameplate chugging, Tata Motors will soon update it with additional features along with BS6-compliant powertrains. The updated model is expected to be launched by the end of 2019.
Spied recently without any camouflage, the updated Nexon was seen sharing with the upcoming Altroz’ steering wheel. Those with a keen eye might have also noticed that the right spoke of the steering wheel now features cruise control buttons. This could possibly mean that the carmaker might be testing the cruise control function and could offer the feature soon. Currently, the Nexon is the only model in its segment that doesn’t get this crucial feature.

While the exteriors of the Nexon don’t feature any major changes, a closer look at the spy shots reveal that the rear fog lamps aren’t present in the top-spec XZ+ model anymore.
Talking about features, the current Nexon comes with a 6.5-inch infotainment system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, an 8-speaker Harman sound system, climate control, multi-info display, steering mounted controls, power windows as well as drive modes. Safety features include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with camera, driver and co-driver seatbelt warning and high speed alert.

The Nexon can be had with two engine options - a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. The petrol unit develops 110PS and 170Nm while the diesel churns out 110PS and 260Nm. Both engines can be had with a 6-speed manual or an AMT. While both engines are BS4-compliant, the updated Nexon will come with BS6-compliant units.
While the Nexon is still a desirable product, the introduction of its rivals like the Mahindra XUV300 and Hyundai Venue means the Nexon is slowly losing popularity. The introduction of cruise control and BS6-compliant engines might give the sub-compact SUV a boost to regain its spot in the segment. We expect the updated Nexon to hit the roads by the end of 2019. It is likely to cost more than the current model, which retails from Rs 6.58 lakh to Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Apart from this, Tata Motors has also confirmed the launch of the Nexon EV. Likely to share its powertrain with the Altroz EV, the Nexon EV is likely to offer a range of around 300km. It is also expected to get fast charging capabilities.
