Tata Motors surprised us at Auto Expo 2020 with the revival of its legendary Sierra via an EV concept. This is nearly three decades after the three-door car debuted on Indian shores. So how much has the design evolved after such a long gap? Here’s a closer look.
Design
On the outside, the original Sierra’s main highlights were a unique three-door setup and a side glass running into the roof. The overall design may not be as much of an attraction now, but it was quite the craze in the 90s.
The Sierra EV Concept honours its predecessor with a single-piece glass that also runs into the roof. It also features a similar three-door setup, however, the third door is a slider on the left side. Other changes in the concept SUV include an imposing stance, sleek front grille, slim headlamps, LED tail lamps, and a swanky set of alloy wheels.
Interior
The original Sierra featured tilt-adjustable steering, power windows, and power steering. Sure these are standard now, but it was all very modern for a 90’s vehicle. In comparision, the Sierra Concept EVs interior features a futuristic design, with wooden flooring, oodles of space, 360 degree movable seats and more future tech.
Engines
The main difference between the two Sierras comes down to what’s under the hood. The old Sierra was powered by a Peugeot sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine that made 63PS of power. The Sierra concept, on the other hand, is an all-electric SUV. Its technical specifications are yet to be revealed.
