To take on the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10 and the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Tata introduced the Tiago at an extremely tempting price in April. While the Celerio has an AMT on offer and the Grand i10 comes with an automatic transmission, the Tiago was missing a two-pedal variant. The Sanand-based car manufacturer plans to bring in the AMT fitted Tiago in September.
Tata will go a step further and introduce an AMT in petrol as well as diesel variants. This AMT box is expected to be the same one that has been fitted in the Zest compact sedan and the GenX Nano. As in the GenX Nano, the Tiago AMT too will come with a crawl function that prevents the car from rolling backwards without having to press the accelerator. That aside, this feature will also make it convenient to drive the Tiago in stop-and-go traffic.
This AMT equipped Tiago will be powered by the same 1.2-litre 3-pot petrol unit that pumps 85PS of power and 114Nm of torque. The diesel trim will also get the same 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine that churns put 70PS of max power and 140Nm of peak torque. Expect the Tiago AMT to be marginally slower in terms of acceleration than the manual transmission variants.
Just like the Zest, the Tiago too is expected to come with the AMT option only in the mid-spec XM trim. The Tiago XM petrol and diesel are priced at Rs 3.90 lakh and 4.70 lakh respectively. Expect the Tiago AMT to be priced marginally higher.
