Tata's little Tiago has a big milestone under its belt. The hatchback has garnered over one lakh bookings. Tata says that over 65,000 units have been delivered already. "The top-end variant is the most popular among first-time car buyers and the recently introduced AMT variant has seen an overwhelming response" reads a press statement issued by Tata Motors.
The Tiago slots in a rung below the Bolt hatchback, which sadly failed to gather steam in the market. The first Tata product to be based on the new 'Impact' design philosophy, the Tiago poses as a well-rounded value for money offering in the entry-level hatchback space.
Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, “Tiago boasts our new IMPACT design philosophy and has been a game changer for Tata Motors. With its stylish design, enhanced performance and drive dynamics, TIAGO led the company’s transformation journey, setting a benchmark in the hatchback segment."

"We have witnessed a healthy month-on-month growth on the back of a strong demand. The car is making all the right noises in India. We are extremely happy with the response received so far and are confident of achieving more milestones in the months to come,” he added.
Over the past five months, the Tata Tiago has been hovering around the 5k mark in terms of monthly sales. The hatchback also spawned the Tigor "styleback" that Tata seems to be relying on to up the overall volumes. We're expecting the manufacturer to be on the offensive this year as well, with the Vitara Brezza rival - the Nexon.
That said, Tata's true coming of age will be towards the end of the decade when the modular platform aka AMP rolls out.
