Always fancied a digital instrument cluster a la VW’s Virtual Cockpit in your sub-Rs 10 lakh car? For a long while, the Renault Kwid and the recently launched Triber were the only ones to offer this unique feature. But that’s set to change soon as Tata Motors has just given its entry-level models, the Tiago and Tigor, a small but welcome update in the form of a new digital instrument panel. However, it is only available with the top-spec XZ+ and XZA+ variant of both cars. Despite the update, prices of these variants remain unchanged.

The digital instrument panel on both models is a trapezoidal monochrome unit. Apart from the speedometer and tachometer, a multi-info display is present that displays critical info like average fuel efficiency, distance-to-empty, two trip meters, odometer and a clock. The speedometer takes centre stage while the rev counter takes the form of a sweeping bar on the left. The bar-shaped pattern is repeated on the right to serve as the temperature and fuel gauge.

Apart from the new instrument cluster, the cabin and features of both cars remain unchanged. That means you get features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8-speaker Harman sound system, climate control, steering-mounted audio controls, projector headlamps as well as drive modes. Safety features on both cars include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, driver and co-driver seatbelt warning and high-speed alert system. The Tiago also comes with a rearview camera as well.
Under the hood, both models come with a 1.05-litre diesel engine and 1.2-litre petrol engine. The diesel engine develops 70PS and 140Nm while the petrol engine develops 85PS and 114Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual on both engines while the petrol unit can be had with an AMT option as well.
