You'll have to pay a premium of Rs 41,000 if you want a Tigor without a clutch pedal

Tata Tigor

It was only a matter of time before Tata added an AMT to the Tigor. The Tiago hatchback got the automatic earlier this year, and Tata claimed to have received an "overwhelming response" for the same.

The two-pedal tech is available with Tata's 1.2-litre Revotron petrol motor only. The three-pot engine makes 85PS of power and 114Nm of peak torque. The automatic is available only in the top two variants - XTA and XZA priced at Rs 5.75 lakh and Rs 6.22 lakh respectively. Compared to the manual XT and XZ, you're looking at a premium of Rs 41,000 for the 5-speed AMT gearbox. That, in our books, is completely justified for the sheer convenience it offers.

On the features front, the automatics get everything that their equivalent manual counterparts offer, save for the Multi Drive Modes (Eco and City). But, the automatic does get a Sports mode instead. Compared to the top-spec XZ (O) manual, the XZA misses out on automatic climate control, the 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system and reverse parking camera. It gets all the other bells and whistles including the projector headlamps, 15-inch two-tone wheels and a 6-speaker Harman audio system.

If you are keen on the Tigor AMT, we'd recommend looking only at the XZA variant. Purely because it gets the safety net of dual airbags. The price difference between the XTA and the XZA is Rs 47,000, which isn't too steep in our books.

To get an idea of how the automatic performs, you can read our report of the Tiago XZA by clicking on the link in the recommended section. We're ringing up Tata to lend us a Tigor AMT for a review, so stay tuned for a detailed road test.
