Tata’s Tigor is all set to get a facelift and the compact sedan was recently spotted testing on the Mumbai-Pune expressway. The previous update for the compact sedan was in October 2018 which included a new variant, cosmetic and feature updates. This time around though it might not be limited to cosmetics only.
In the spy shots, the grille was missing on the Tigor. It was also wearing a set of rudimentary headlights and the fog lamp housings were completely covered. This could hint that the carmaker is planning to give the Tigor a new face to bring it in line with the Impact 2.0 design language. Tata could also take plenty of styling cues from the upcoming Altroz hatchback. The side and rear of the Tigor seen here are also completely camouflaged and are expected to get minor styling tweaks. It must be mentioned that the Tiago will also get a facelift and the hatchback has been spied on test.
The Tigor is currently available with a BS4-compliant 1.2-litre Revotron petrol motor and 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel motor. The petrol motor churns out 85PS of power and 114Nm of torque, while the diesel produces 70PS of power and 140Nm of torque. The Tigor also gets a sportier JTP variant which uses a more powerful 1.2-litre petrol motor. It churns out 114PS of power and 150Nm of torque. While both the petrol motors on the Tigor will be upgraded to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms, the diesel will face the axe.
The high costs of upgrading the diesel engine to comply with BS6 emission norms will result in smaller capacity diesels becoming unaffordable in the country. To that effect, Maruti Suzuki is also reported to pull the plug on diesel engines when the new norms kick in from April 2020. Recently, Mahindra also announced that it will discontinue its smaller 1.2-litre diesel motor.
The Tigor facelift is expected to hit roads before the end of this year or at the 2020 Auto Expo. When launched, it is likely to cost more than the current car which retails from Rs 5.48 lakh to Rs 7.64 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Tigor rivals the Ford Aspire, Maruti Suzuki Dzire and the Hyundai Xcent.
