With the detuned 75PS diesel engine, Tata could possibly be aiming to make the Zest more competitive against its rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Xcent in the compact sedan segment
Tata Zest

Tata Motors has revised the diesel variants of the Zest compact sedan in terms of the engine outputs. The Zest was launched by Tata with two diesel engine options- 75PS and 90PS variants of the 1.3-litre Quadrajet powerplant. The 75PS diesel engine has a fixed geometry turbocharger and was available only for the XE base variant while the more powerful 90PS motor has a variable geometry turbocharger and was opted for the other variants. Now, the manufacturer has discontinued the 90PS variant for the XM and XMS variants for the Zest and will now be offered with the de-tuned 75PS motor.

Apart for the changes in power output, alloy wheels and day and night IRVM (Inside Rear View Mirror) will now be available only for the top-end variants of XT and XTA. On the safety aspect of the Zest, the XM variant will not be equipped with ABS.

With the above mentioned changes, Tata is possibly looking forward to target the mid-variant buyers. Also on the economy end, the 75PS engine returns a mileage of 23kmpl as compared to the 21.58kmpl of the 90PS motor. With the revision of variants, the Zest is likely to also grab the attention of the commercial buyers in the market.

The Tata Zest is a sub-four metre compact sedan which is offered in petrol and diesel variants. The sedan is also offered with an AMT gearbox option for the both the engines. In the Indian compact sedan market, the Zest faces competition from the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze and the Hyundai Xcent.
