Tata Zest launched at Rs 4.64 lakh

Tata Motors launched the Zest today at a starting price of Rs 4.64 lakh for the base petrol variant and Rs 6.99 lakh for the top-of-the-line diesel (both prices ex-showroom Delhi). The Tata Zest's launch, marks the beginning of a new chapter for Tata Motors, one that has the potential to change the way their cars are perceived. The Tata Motors Zest was first unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo and it showcases the tremendous improvement in the quality of products to follow. 

Based on the Vista/Manza platform, the Tata Zest will be made available in petrol as well as diesel variants. The petrol will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron engine that pumps 90PS of power and 140Nm of torque. The 1.3-litre diesel variant of the Tata Zest will produce the same amount of power but will get 190Nm of torque. Both variants come mated to a 5-speed gearbox besides which the diesel also comes with an AMT. The XMA is the AMT variant but it will not be available with safety features like air bags and ABS.

Apart from the engine, the design and the interiors too have been changed. The Tata Zest gets a honeycomb grille that is complimented well by the large headlights. At the back, it gets LED tail lights and hints of chrome. In profile the Tata Zest looks little disproportionate thanks to the large hood and the relatively small boot but the sharp lines and the 15-inch alloys work well balancing it out. 

With the likes of the Honda Amaze and the Hyundai Xcent in the segment, the task at hand for the Tata Zest is surely going to be a difficult one. That said, the step up in terms of quality, design and driving pleasure should surely help the cause.
