After several teasers, Mercedes-Benz will finally remove the wraps off the EQS on April 15, its new all-electric flagship model that will take on the Tesla Model S and the Audi e-tron GT. With a little over two weeks to its debut, Mercedes has given us some detail about the EQS’s range and battery specs.
The EQS’s electric motors will draw power from a 108kWh battery pack manufactured at Mercedes’s Hedelfingen plant in Stuttgart. The carmaker says it's targeting a WLTP-claimed range of over 700km! The battery pack will support fast charging; topping it up for 15 minutes using a fast charger can deliver a range of up to 250km. While Mercedes is yet to reveal the EQS’s powertrain specifications, the EVA platform on which it is based supports electric motors of up to 680PS.
Inside, the EQS will debut the stunning Hyperscreen from Mercedes, which can give your local theatre a run for its money. It’s a massive 56 inches (yes, you read that right!) curved display stretching across the dashboard width. There’s a separate screen for the co-driver too, which will be available depending on the country’s regulations. Take a look at this masterpiece here.
It’s still a bit too early to tell if Mercedes will launch the all-electric EQS in India, but it isn’t improbable. The carmaker will also globally launch 10 electric vehicles by 2025 including the EQB SUV, EQE sedan, and the EQS SUV.
