Sales figures for May are in, and we have five carmakers occupying the top 10 places. Considering most states have ongoing lockdowns and certain carmakers have halted production, it isn’t a surprise that numbers have dwindled, irrespective of the make. In fact, none of the models could register a positive month-on-month (MoM) growth from April 2021.
However, this time, the top 10 list features more OEMs than the only two in the months before, thanks to Kia, Tata, and Mahindra now in the mix.

Hyundai has three models on this list. The Creta has dethroned the Maruti Swift, taking the top spot for this month. Interestingly, the SUV had also come in first in May 2020.
Much to our surprise, the Alto has not featured in the list this time.
Both Tata Nexon and Mahindra Bolero feature in the top ten.
We have two sub-4m SUVs in the Sonet and Nexon, occupying third and fourth spots, respectively.
SUVs continue to dominate, evident from as many as six models, followed by three hatchbacks and one sedan.
The Baleno, Swift, Dzire, Venue, and Grand i10 Nios also see a dip of more than 50 percent in their MoM comparison.
With lockdowns starting to ease in certain states, we expect car sales to improve. And with retail and dealership experiences shifting to virtual platforms, buying a car is now easier (not to forget, safer) from the comfort of your home.
