Update: Hyundai has launched the new Verna in India. Petrol variants are priced from Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 12.24 lakh. Diesel variants are priced from Rs 9.19 lakh to Rs 12.40 lakh.
It's here! Well, almost. Hyundai has teased the 2017 Verna on their official website. Although the image showcases only certain elements of the new Verna's face, they do confirm the model which will be launching in the country. This is the third generation of the sedan which has long been due for an update. Since the last major update of the Verna, Honda has launched the City Facelift and Skoda has brought in the facelift Rapid. Still due for an update is the Maruti Ciaz. Expect the all-new Hyundai Verna to be launched early next month with a price bump of around half a lakh.
The 2017 Hyundai Verna will get a new exterior look but will remain reminiscent of the current generation Verna. The front now features the signature Hyundai hexagonal grille which extends right up to the air dam. The fog lamps are small round units which line up with the projector headlamps. Speaking of the headlamps, the 2017 Hyundai Verna gets DRLs, a feature which had a very short run in the current-gen Verna. From the side, the new Verna gets closer to a notchback design with the roofline merging towards the end of the boot lid. At the rear, the Verna sports Elite i20-like taillamps.
Inside, the cabin is all new with a new layout for the centre console. The current layout with the wooden inserts looks dated, and is going to be replaced with a trapezoidal layout of the infotainment screen and centre AC vents. The infotainment unit will most likely be the one seen on the Elantra and will support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with inbuilt navigation. The steering wheel and the instrument cluster is also new with a clean white on black layout, ditching the light/dark blue combination of the current one.
Engine options will be a carry forward from the current generation – 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol/diesel. The change is expected to come in the form of a 6-speed automatic, replacing the 4-speed auto.
The all-new Verna might be launched early next year, with the booking starting in a few days. Since the 2017 Hyundai Verna will be better equipped than the current gen, it could end up being about Rs 50,000 costlier.
