The New Jaguar F-Type Is Still Achingly Pretty!

Nobody would’ve called the Jaguar F-Type a slowpoke, for, even in its standard trim, it is capable of reaching a top speed of 300 kmph. But if you’re looking for a bit more grunt than that, Jaguar has just the thing for you: the new F-Type SVR, in Coupe and Convertible versions. And it is fast, really fast. Think supercar fast, but without the supercar price tag.
In fact Jaguar goes so far as to claim that that the F-Type SVR is the fastest series production Jag ever. But wait a minute, what about the legendary Jaguar XJ220 that briefly held the title of world's fastest car with a top speed of 213 mph, until the McLaren F1 came along, you and us ask in unison. Well, it is a bit of a semantics thing. While the XJ220 is still undisputedly the fastest Jag ever, they aren’t calling it a series production vehicle. And that’s how the F-Type SVR gets to keep its new crown.
To extract this newfound performance, Jaguar has fettled with the latest version of Jaguar Land Rover's 5.0-litre, supercharged V8, eking out a max power output of 575 PS, 25 more than the F-Type R. Torque is up from 680 Nm to 700 Nm, while the 0-60 time has dropped from 3.9 to just 3.5 seconds. And yes, 320 kmph (or, more specifically, 321.8 kmph) is possible with the hardtop – the convertible will only do 314 kmph. Granted, it still will not stand up to the acceleration figures of the 911 Turbo or Turbo S, but then again, the F-Type costs a lot less.
Other than the engine enhancements, Jaguar has also made some changes to the bodywork for more efficient airflow and aerodynamics. A new, slightly wider front bumper covers up the SVR's slightly wider wheel and tire package; a front undertray and rear venturi unit tidy up airflow underneath, while a larger deployable decklid spoiler raises up at highway speeds or whenever the driver selects Dynamic mode.
The Jaguar F-Type SVR will make its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show before arriving in showrooms this summer as a 2017 model. Internationally, the coupe will start at $126,945 and the convertible at $129,795. Expect them to land on Indian shores sometime next year.
