The brand is aiming to address the elephant in the room by offering a complete ownership assurance
  • The Hector comes with a 5-year/unlimited km warranty.
  • The British brand is also offering five maintenance plans.
  • There is also an impressive buyback program in association with CarDekho.
  • MG has also joined hands with Myles Zero for a subscription programme.

The Hector, being MG’s flag bearer in India, definitely has a lot riding on its shoulders. The SUV will also be solely responsible for the brands’ initial perception in our country. MG has a lot at stake here as the segment it is entering is filled with established players and solid offerings. To grab the Indian customers' attention, MG has done their homework. The SUV is priced aggressively from Rs 12.18 lakh to Rs 16.88 lakh.

It has been launched and here's the complete price list with all the other details.

But pricing is only half the job done. What matters is the long-term reliability, longevity and most importantly, trust. To address this elephant in the room, MG is offering various ownership assurance services which it collectively calls ‘MG Shield’. This includes:

3-60 Assured Buyback Plan

MG has joined hands with CarDekho to offer a special buyback program to its customers. CarDekho is one of the most popular automotive portals in India and is also our sister publication. MG promises to buyback the Hector after three years at an impressive 60 per cent value of the SUV.

Service, Warranty and Roadside Assistance

The British marque is offering various service plans and warranty schemes  to make the ownership experience hassle free. The Hector comes with a 5-year/unlimited kilometer warranty as well as a 5-year/unlimited kilometers roadside assistance. Meanwhile, MG is offering a more conservative 5years/1.5 lakh kilometer warranty and roadside assistance on Hectors bought for commercial purposes.

Moving on to service, MG claims that the Hector will also be easy on the pocket. It will come with a best-in-class ownership cost with the claimed cost of service of less than half a rupee per kilometre for both the diesel and petrol variants. MG claims the ownership cost will be Rs 0.45 Rs/km for the petrol and 0.49 Rs/km for the diesel variants.

Subscription:

MG subscription program is offered in collaboration with self-drive rental firm Myles under their premium ‘Zero’ offer. Under this plan, one can use the car without having to buy the SUV outright. The programme also allows users to book test drives and is also entitled to a courtesy car while the Hector is being serviced through the Myles platform. The subscription offer will be initially reserved to Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai, while other cities will be added later. Volkswagen has also started a similar leasing program for its car, details of which you can read here.

The MG Hector comes in four variants -- Style, Super, Smart and Sharp. It can be had with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol or a 2.0-litre diesel motor. The 1.5-litre petrol motor makes 143PS and 250Nm of torque. It is also offered with a 48V mild-hybrid system for improved fuel economy.   The 2.0-litre FCA-sourced diesel motor makes 170PS and 350Nm. The petrol, mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines come mated to a 6-speed manual, while the 6-speed DCT can only be had with the petrol.

MG claims that it has received over 10,000 bookings for the Hector before revealing the prices and that the deliveries will commence in the next two days. Only time will reveal if the Hector can strike a chord with SUV buyers in India, but MG is surely  going all out and offering everything from its side to make the ownership experience a pleasant one.
