Have you ever wonder how a Porsche will look on just a pair of wheels? Spanish designer Miguel Angel Bahri didn't only think about it but took this idea almost to reality. Yes, with the goal of making a pure electric bike concept as close to reality as possible, Bahri designed this concept as part of his "Two Wheels Project" and named it the "Porche 618".
The concept motorcycle is inspired by iconic models like the 911 Turbo, 918, and the 919 and has been designed considering Porsche's recent forays into electric power with the 918 Spyder and its Le Mans-winning 919 race car. However, Bahri named it the Porsche 618 because he believes this concept could represent the brand in the entry-level, electric vehicle segment, just below the 718 range. "I wanted to represent the spirit and character of Porsche's DNA in this futuristic-looking pure electric and exclusive power cruiser," he said.
Bahri told that it was important to use Porsche's signature "form follows function" design philosophy to develop the 618 concept. To fulfil this condition, the concept bike was designed with a swingarm front suspension and a centre hub steering to keep the centre of gravity low. The concept features Le Mans-style doors housing the charging system, batteries and a luggage compartment as well.
Powering the Porsche 618 concept is an electric motor that is rated at a maximum output of 160PS, using a 20 kilowatt-hour battery pack. The model weighs around 220kg, and its performance could be much similar to some of the existing power cruiser models like the Ducati Diavel (162PS, 210kg).
An eight-inch touch-screen instrument panel has been located in the 30-degree vision angle of the rider, which further contributes to the clean form of the motorcycle. The console works together with both Android and iOS smart devices to provide a host of information including remaining battery range, the nearest charging point, GPS and much more. Moreover, it can also charge your smartphone wirelessly.
No one knows how Porsche will respond to the proposed concept, but Bahri is continuing work on the upgraded models -- the "S" and "RS" versions.
