Hyundai has revealed percentage-wise figures for the i20 variants booked in the past 20 days.
85 percent buyers booked the Sportz variant or above.
Hyundai says there’s a buyer affinity towards variants offering an air purifier, sunroof and BlueLink connected technology.
CVT, DCT and iMT (clutchless manual transmission) equipped variants accounted for 25 percent of the bookings.
The i20 is priced between Rs 6.79 lakh to Rs 11.32 lakh (ex-showroom).
Bookings for the new Hyundai i20 commenced almost three weeks ago. Since then, the carmaker has revealed it has received 20,000 bookings, with 4,000 units being delivered during the Diwali season. Hyundai has shared all the data regarding the sales of the i20, so let’s take a look at the numbers.
For starters, over 85 percent of the bookings were made for the mid-spec Sportz and the variants above. Almost 45 percent of the customers have opted for a variant (available Asta onwards) with Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car tech on offer. Nearly 30 percent of the bookings have been made for variants that offer the sunroof (only in Asta (O)) as a feature and 35 percent that come with an air purifier (Asta automatic onwards).
Under the hood, the i20 borrows its engine and transmission options from the Venue. It is offered with three engines: 1.2-litre petrol, 1.0-litre turbo petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel. The naturally aspirated petrol engine gets a choice of a 5-speed manual transmission and CVT, whereas the turbo-petrol engine comes with the option of the 6-speed iMT or 7-speed DCT transmissions. The 1.5-litre diesel engine comes with a standalone 6-speed manual gearbox. The variants that offer automatic CVT or DCT gearboxes, or clutchless manual iMT gearbox account for 25 percent of the bookings with 4,000 bookings made for the 1.5-litre diesel engine variants.
The new i20 was launched on November 5 with four variants, Magna, Sportz, Asta, and Asta (O), with an entry-level Era variant set to join the ranks soon. The premium hatchback dropped the Elite tag only in terms of its name on its most recent release but not its pricing which ranges from Rs 6.79 lakh to Rs 11.32 lakh (ex-showroom). It locks horns with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Tata Altroz and Honda Jazz.
