The 2017 Volkswagen Polo has been teased via a 'Sneak Peak' video. What you can see is a heavily camouflaged hatchback with a familiar silhouette and lights, but with noticeably larger dimensions. Check out the video below:
Volkswagen is expected to take the covers off the new Polo hatchback before the end of 2017, though it has been spied uncamouflaged in South Africa, and the car will go on sale in many international markets soon after. It has been over 40 years since the Polo brand came into being, the first units rolled out in 1975 - since then the model has seen five major generational changes.
In its sixth generation, the Volkswagen Polo will be based on the company's latest modular 'MQB A0' platform. It will be the second car to use the platform after the SEAT Ibiza Mk5 which was showcased at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
The new Polo is 4053mm long, 1751mm wide, 1446mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2564mm. This means that the new car is 81mm longer, 69mm wider, 97mm shorter and a 94mm longer wheelbase. The car headed to India may not share the same dimensions as the international model, it has to fit in the sub 4-metre length limit to be competitively priced against the competition. Meanwhile, Volkswagen has launched the Polo GT Sport edition to attract more customers.
The sixth-generation Polo will feature new Euro-6 compliant engines - a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol is the highlight. Other motors on offer will be a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel. All these engines can be paired with either two different manual transmissions (a 5-speed or a 6-speed) or a 7-speed DSG. The next-gen Polo GTI could be powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor.

The new Polo, as can be seen in these images, features headlamps with LED DRLs, LED taillamps, and 16-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the hatchback is expected to get an all-digital instrument cluster, an improved infotainment system, and a generally better interior package.

In India, Volkswagen is expected to make a lot of changes to the Polo platform. The length restriction, feasibility of launching new engines, modifying the platform to spawn future generations of the Volkswagen Ameo and Volkswagen Vento etc. have to be taken into consideration.
