Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Grand i10, and Hyundai Venue were the only models to show growth in month-on-month sales

In March 2021, the Indian automotive industry made a strong recovery after being affected by the nationwide pandemic. Now, with the second wave playing spoilsport, April has seen fluctuating car sales, with only a few models showing positive growth in comparison to the preceding month. Let’s take a look at April’s sales figures:

Maruti Suzuki continues its dominance in the country, once again seeing seven of its models in the top ten. However, it is the Wagon R that tops the list, snatching away the spot from the Swift, which has fallen to second. The Alto comes in third, with the Baleno dropping down two spots. Hyundai’s Creta, Grand i10, and Venue continue to be the only non-Maruti cars to feature in this list although sales of the Creta have dropped by 1.4 percent, causing it to drop out of the top five.

Only three models-- the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Venue, and Hyundai Grand i10-- have shown positive growth over their respective sales figures in March while all the other models have shown lower sales figures, possibly due to the current circumstances surrounding the pandemic.

With uncertainty looming in the air thanks to the second wave of Covid-19, many carmakers are seeing a change of plans regarding new launches, announcements, as well as an impact on production and shortage of parts.
